Al Gore

The former US Vice President, Al Gore, won the Nobel Peace Prize yesterday because of his campaign for Global Warming:

"Gore, who has devoted his efforts to the environment since losing the 2000 US presidential election, said he was "deeply honored" by the award and spoke of the "planetary emergency" brought about by man's imprint on the climate.
The prize was jointly awarded to Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) -- a UN body of about 3,000 experts that highlights pollution causing steadily mounting global temperatures."

It really makes the nation question right now whether or not Al Gore will be running in the 2008 Presidential Election. He definitely would have the support of the nation because of his increasing popularity and dedication to enviornmental issues. Al Gore's campaign for the fight against Global Warming has made the nation aware of our earth's declining environment. Because of this, more people are becoming more environmentally aware, cutting down on energy use, converting to hybrid cars, etc.

His achievments have surpassed a number of other political figures, winning awards for his movie, An Inconvenient Truth, and other works to make the public aware of the earth's destruction.

It's hard to believe, but he has a legitimate chance at winning the presidency. I'm shocked. This guy who lost in 2000, has become quite the controversial figure through his movements and fund raisers. Now, after the Live Earth concerts, he is an extremely popular, and actually loved, celebrity. Even though a lot of his facts in regards to global warming have been criticized, people still support him. He could win. There is no doubt he could be the next president.

I'm rather curious to see if Gore is planning on running during the 2008 elections. He has gained quite a bit of support, especially ever since his movie An Inconvenient Truth came out. I think that this type of new found affection will make him popular if he does choose to run for president. However, I feel that he should use this new found fame to try to help the environment and keep focused on the cause that made him so famous. Abandoning said goal may make him lose some of his popularity and would made him seem only concerned about voters approval.

I think Gore's work toward making America aware of global warming is admirable, although I think that if he decides to enter the political race he should do it soon. I could see him gaining a lot of support particularly because many people believe that he should have been our president and the election in 2000 was incredibly close. His newly earned Nobel Peace Price will also boost his support in the election. Although in accordance with what Malous said, I think he's a lot more successful speaking about environmental issues rather than running as a presidential candidate. It might be best for him to dedicate his time to aiding the environment.

Regardless of his celebrity status and predicted success in the presidential election if Gore were to run, I think the more dire issue is his choice whether or not to run at all. Obama and Clinton and other Republican candidates haven't even a trace of the environmental credibility that Gore has accreted over the past few years, and as scientists portend our gradual demise of negligence and avarice I feel that Gore is the only politician suitable to employ the drastic measures now necessary to save our nation and our species.

I am not sure if all Gore is going to run for president, but I really wish he would. He is one of the only people who has realkly tried to make a difference in the environment. There are so many people who support him right now, so I think that he would have a huge chance at winning. If he wants to run then he should declare his candidacy because some candidates have already been running a long time.

I don't know if I am so thrilled about Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize. I think he does deserve recognition for raising awareness on global warming, but raising awareness is not completely meaningful if you do not live the lifestyle that you preach. I think it would be less hypocritical if the few people who actually go completely out of their way to have little effect on the environment received such a prestigious award. As far as I know he is not like the man I read about who rides a stationary bicycle in the morning to make his toast. Basically what I am saying is that someone truly remarkable should win this award.
